South Aisle 3: Virgin & Child. Guardian Angel. 1925
Posted 04 October 2023.
The single two-light window by Percy Bacon depicts, in the left light, the Blessed Virgin Mary and child (an often used Bacon motif, the infant Jesus with outstretched arms), and in the right, a Guardian Angel with a child. Above the figures are scrolls:
Virgin & Child: "All generations shall call me blessed".
Guardian Angel: "We took sweet council together". (Psalm 55:14).
In the predella: left; a shield emplazoned with lilys, and right; a shield with a hand holding what appears to be some form of set square.
The dedication reads:
To the glory of God and in grateful memory of the loving ministrations and care of Dora Percy Clayton Heslop, from the Boys (past and present) of the Beacon School, Staff, and few friends. June 1925.
The window is signed bottom right, "PERCY BACON, LONDON".
