The grand east window high above the carved reredos (by James Taylor Ogleby) is a jumble of types and antitypes. Although the work is well executed, with the exception of the central light, there seems little coherence in the layout of the subjects. For instance, at bottom left we see Isaiah prophesying, "Behold and Virgin shall conceive and bear a Son", sits uncomfortably beside a depiction of Adam and Eve, and below the Sacrifice of Isaac. The Subjects are:

Moses St Paul Angelic Host Christ in Majesty Angelic Host St John E ?
Abraham & Isaac John Baptist Agony in the Garden Crucifixion Appearance to Mary Magdalene Supper at Emmaus Elijah & Elias
Isaiah Adam & Eve Adoration of the Shepherds Nativity Adoration of the Magi Baptism of Christ Melchizedek & Moses

South Transept 1908: Tracery

The south window in the south transept was installed in 1908 and is a dedicated to the memory of Bishop Lloyd (1844-1907), of Newcastle1. Dr Lloyd had held the Bishopric of Thetford before being translated to Newcastle, and the window reflects his connection with East Anglia as well as Northumbria. The central figure is Christ as Priest administering the Eucharist, Below him St Nicholas in whose name the Cathedral at Newcastle is dedicated. Flanking Christ, Ss Paul and Melchizedek to the left and John Evangelist and Aaron to the right. To the left of St Nicholas; St Felix as Bishop of East Anglia, and Sigeberht King of the East Angles, and to his right St Aidan and King Oswald of Northumbria. Bishop Lloyds arms are placed in the centre of the tracery

The window was donated by Miss Emily Easton who also paid for the building of the church and the east and west windows, also by Percy Bacon & Bros.2 Miss Easton was also a generous benefactor of St Mary's, Hutton Magna, Co. Durham.
